Japan's murderer, terrorist "samurai"

The first thing that drew me to this piece is the detail! The more you look the more you seem to find. Her tattoos, samurai helmet, the tako on her shoulder, the little voodoo doll (?) type thing on her belt? I can see a tiny bit of African influence in this, its very tribal. But, its Japanfluence more, and I'm happy to share this one here, and hope you are inspired!

The artists name is Deso.

Handbound Journal - Blanket Stitch Binding

I have such huge respect for people who do book binding. It looks so great, and can be so effective with different types of Washi.

Here, Japanese Chiyogami paper is the cover.

"Geisha"

Here is a gorgoeus piece by Samantha Nelson! This is such a breath of fresh air! It's so symbolic of what our group is about: Geisha, Tako (octopus), Cherry Blossoms, Sushi, Chopsticks, Mt Fuji, Tsunami, Kimono...

I especially love the texture to all of this, and how the kimono turns into a Tako at the end - truly truly Japanfluenced, and inspired!! :)

japanfluence deck

Here's my entry for a competition on Popdeck, named after my beautiful group and blog here. The brief was to do a design, showing your inspirations. Its clear what my inspirations are from my work on The Bub, with this Group and Blog. I think if it wasn't going to get covered up by wheels, etc..... it would have a Mt. Fuji as well.

If you are a member over at Popdeck, please give it a vote. :)

Here's a great piece done on MDF in Poscas and acrylic. I love this, so inspired to get some Poscas and do this myself - not only would I call this a J-pop style, but Poscas are from Japan! ;) When I was at primary school, back in the day, Poscas were the coolest!

Harajuku Lovers!

A few weeks ago, I spied this bag on Flickr, and fell in love with it, and today I own one! :) Have not seen these in Australia, so I'm quite chuffed to have one now! It's a Harajuku Lovers bag, which is one of the labels of Gwen Stefani! She's cool, she does good Japanfluencing herself! This one is the "Love" one out of the "Love Angel Music Baby" bags. With Kanzashi I can only dream about, I've been pretty inspired by this piece, hope you all are too! :)

I've been noticing the beautiful artwork that seems to adorn manhole covers in Japan. It doesn't say where this one is unfortunately, but I think it would be to a hydrant. These guys are so cute!

This is some graffiti - not sure where this is, but it looks so awesome!! Very grand, and its a shame that we can't see more of the dragon on the right! I really like the patterning in this and the Noh Mask has such great character!
